86 YEAR OLD DIES
IN SPITE OF BRAVE RESCUE EFFORT
It is reported that three witnesses including off duty RCMP officer Shane Nicol risked their lives in an attempt to save the lone occupant of the vehicle, who was later recovered by a commercial dive team.The frigid waters of the Millstone 'took my breath away' said Const. Nicol, who with one other had been able to break out the rear window and took turns trying to cut away the victims seat belt.
It appears the out of control vehicle had turned left onto Pearson bridge when it crashed through the guardrail and tumbled down the steep embankment into the freezing river. The victim had not been identified, pending notification of next of kin.
