NANAIMO and AREA LAND TRUSTCOMPLETES PURCHASE
Nanaimo area residents are indebted to the efforts of Nanaimo and Area Land Trust for it's work in securing the purchase of a 212 hectare parcel on the north shoulder of Mount Benson.
The NALT had to make use of a line of credit for the final $40,000 shortfall which they anticipate will be paid off with continued donations. They are also hopeful that two applications for grants could clear the debt as well.
Over 2000 individual donations were made over the past two years resulting in the NALT in being able to present the NRD with a cheque for $475,000 to secure the land purchase.
It will take at least a year to finalize the best way to manage this new parkland and determine the best way to make public use of it.
Kudos to the society members for their great efforts in providing a very valuable resource to Nanaimo and are residents.
