Nanaimo Mayor Korpan Sues over Bumper Sticker

Mayor Launches Lawsuit

In what could be considered a questionable act, Nanaimo Mayor Gary Korpan has launched a lawsuit against two Nanaimo citizens.

The lawsuit stems from the printing and displaying a bumper sticker which said "Free Nanaimo from Koruption".

The Mayor says he has launched the lawsuit in a effort to clear his name.

Reports in the local press indicate most people feel he would be better off to simply ignore the matter rather than appearing to be a bully.

Editor's Comment: The Mayor is obviously taking the opinion that a reference to corruption implies he has taken money while in office. The corruption reference could also be taken to mean that his opponents think he is a corrupting influence on the city. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out in court. But it would seem he is drawing more attention to the sticker than the sticker ever drew to itself.
