Loaded Firearm Found In Car

Traffic Stop Reveals Loaded Handgun

A 36 year old Nanaimo resident faces multiple firearms charges after a vehicle stop on Saturday May 31 in Nanaimo.

Nanaimo Property Crime members spotted a vehicle with wrong plates being driven by an individual well known to them.The vehicle was stopped at 9:00pm in the Harewood area of Nanaimo and the driver was subsequently arrested for Driving with out valid Insurance.When members looked inside the vehicle for vehicle registration they located a loaded 22 caliber handgun on the passenger side floor.

Jason Donald WHYTE was taken into custody and remanded to Monday morning where charges were laid for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon,Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of a Fiream in a Motor Vehicle.He was also charged with various violations under the Motor Vehicle Act.
