23000 MARIHUANA PLANTS ERADICATED

VANCOUVER ISLAND POT CROP DESTROYED

Vancouver Island Police Officers have wrapped up a 6 day air and land operation, which resulted in the eradication of over 23,000 marihuana plants from across Vancouver Island. In total, officers visited 222 sites where marihuana was being illegally cultivated on Crown Lands.

The aerial phase of this project commenced on August 21st, 2008. An integrated team of police officers from the RCMP, Saanich Police Department and Victoria Police Department, with the support of the Canadian Military, took to the skies over Vancouver Island. The Canadian Military offered transport assistance to the police officers, in accessing remote and challenging locations.

“As anticipated, this year’s project yielded a significant number of marihuana plants, ultimately destined for sale on the streets of Vancouver Island communities, and possibly beyond. We believe that the sale of the eradicated marihuana would have resulted in profits for organized crime groups, in turn funding other serious criminal activities in our communities”, said Constable Darren Lagan of the Island District RCMP.

While the aerial portion of this project has concluded, police across Vancouver Island remain committed to the eradication of this year’s outdoor marihuana crop.
