CHEESE MAY BE CONTAMINATED

Health Hazard Alert: Cheeses Manufactured by Fromagerie la Voie Lactée Inc. May be Contaminated by Pathogenic Bacteria

OTTAWA, September 23, 2008 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume the cheeses manufactured by Fromagerie La Voie lactée Inc. described below because these products may be contaminated with pathogenic bacteria because of an inadequate pasteurization.

All lots of the following products sold up to and including September 19, 2008 are affected by the recall.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Food affected by this recall may not look or smell spoiled. However, there may be a health risk associated with the consumption of these products. The symptoms associated with the bacteria may be similar to gastroenteritis, but complications may occur. People with weakened immune systems and pregnant women are considered particularly at risk.

The manufacturer, Fromagerie La Voie lactée Inc., L’Assomption, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
