FERRY NOISE TO BE REDUCED WHILE DOCKING

COASTAL RENAISSANCE
TO GET ADDITIONAL SILENCER

BC Ferries’ Coastal Renaissance, which operates on the Departure Bay – Horseshoe Bay route, will be removed from service from Monday, September 22 through Thursday, September 25 to allow for the installation of an additional engine silencer.

During this time, the Queen of Cowichan will sail in place of the Coastal Renaissance. There will be no change to the schedule on the Departure Bay – Horseshoe Bay route over the four days. The Coastal Renaissance will return to service on Friday, September 26.

BC Ferries is installing the additional engine silencer to further mitigate noise and vibration while docking. A similar device was installed on the Coastal Celebration as a trial last month, which had greatly reduced the sound emanating from the engines. The Coastal Inspiration will also be fitted with an additional engine silencer at a later date.
