NANAIMO SHIPYARD'S CHARGES DISMISSED

SHIPYARD HAD 'CAPTIVE CUSTOMER'

It is reported in the local daily that a California doctor who had the misfortune of hitting a reef in Nanaimo harbour in Aug. 2005; will have his bill from Nanaimo Shipyards reduced.

Saying that the shipyard had a 'captive customer' several of the items the shipyard was attempting to collect were dismissed.

Among the items dismissed was a $27,000 'lay day' fee for 6 days the vessel sat at the shipyard without instructions. A charge of $17,208 for moorage when in fact the shipyard was holding the boat as security until their bill was paid and finally a $3600 charge for disposing of fuel which the shipyard apparently used for their own purposes.

Editor's comment: Not really the kind of news which says 'Welcome to Nanaimo all ye seafaring souls'; is it?
