A PLAGUE OF FROGS??

NANAIMO GREEN LAKE
RESIDENTS LOOKING FOR HELP

It is reported in the local daily that residents of Nanaimo's Green Lake have spent $1000 to assess the American Bullfrog infestation of their lake.

The species which apparently is very invasive were introduced as the result of a failed frog farming experiment which went wrong.

The cute little 'Kermits' are reported of being able to attain lengths of 20 cm. and weights of up to 6 kilograms, although other estimates of size are more in the 750 gram range. Regardless of size they are usually the top of the food chain and devour turtles, other frogs, salamanders and even birds.

Considering that one female bullfrog can lay up to 50,000 eggs it is easy to see how their population can quickly get out of hand.

The Green Lake residents are wishing to make a presentation to City Council on Monday to see if the City will provide funds to try and address the problem.
