FISHING DOCK FOR DISABLED OPENS AT LONG LAKE

LONG LAKE NOW FRIENDLY
FOR WHEELCHAIR ANGLERS

Thanks to the efforts of Brad Durvin people who enjoy fishing but are wheelchair bound have a place to wet their line.

There is now a wheelchair accessible fishing dock in Loudon Park at Long Lake which has taken almost four years from idea to finished project.

Brad got the idea while observing a person in a wheelchair having difficulty fishing from the shore, and unlike most of us, decided to do something about it.

He kicked in $2500 of his own and with the help of the Fish and Game club, Wheels in Motion and others came up with the $11,000 total needed to finish the project.

However, like everything else in society, it was not that simple as the city then had to make $100,000 worth of improvements to the park and address concerns raised by local residents.

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC released 2,000 rainbow trout into the lake also, which should improve all anglers odds of turning 'fishing' into 'catching'.

Kudos to Brad for not just seeing a problem but doing something about it!
