NANAIMO LOCATION FOR RCMP CENTRALIZATION

Amalgamation of Federal Policing resources

to better support Vancouver Island District

Nanaimo, B.C - The RCMP, in partnership with the City of Nanaimo is pleased to announce the future relocation of police resources to a centralized location on Vancouver Island.

This amalgamation of federal policing services will put the RCMP in a better position to enforce federal statutes, share intelligence, resources and expertise in order to effectively combat crime in B.C.’s Vancouver Island District which encompasses the entire Vancouver Island, its related coastal islands and the north half of the Sunshine Coast located on the mainland.

The initiative will centralize resources that can be deployed to any area of the District and will directly support the RCMP’s goal of providing more efficient services to its clients. The Unit will operate out of a newly renovated facility leased from the city of Nanaimo.

As Vancouver Island’s largest RCMP detachment Nanaimo City Council is supportive of the relocation and recognizes the benefits the relocation will bring to both the city and Vancouver Island as a whole.

“On behalf of City Council, we are proud to welcome the amalgamated relocation of RCMP resources to our City. We believe the progressive and cooperative relationships we have enjoyed with the RCMP encouraged RCMP E-Division to make this significant announcement whose benefits accrue to both the City of Nanaimo and the greater Vancouver Island area,” says Mayor Gary Korpan.

The RCMP would like to thank the City of Nanaimo for leasing the space required to relocate their resources to help further address the policing needs of the residents of Vancouver Island District.
