Prorogue of Canadian Parliament

Parliament Closed Until January 26

Prime Minister Stephen Harper obtained the Governor General's permission to prorogue Parliament until January 26/09.

During this time his government will be preparing the Canadian budget for 2009 which will be presented to Parliament when it sits in the new year.

The three party coalition will have ample opportunity to defeat the government at that time if they feel the budget does not deal with the current economic concerns of Canadians. To be credible they of course would have to be presenting a viable alternative with much more detail than simply throwing $30 billion of taxpayer money at the problem hoping it helps.

It looks like a cooler head prevailed this time, and Canadians for the next little while will be spared the childish drama we have witnessed over the past week from all parties concerned.
