5000 Students Affected by 'Bomb Threat'

It seems that any idiot with a spray bomb can cause considerable disruption as witnessed with yesterdays bomb 'threat' which should more accurately be called stupid graffiti. Granted police must err on the side of caution and responded as they should.

When/if they catch these idiots it would be good if they had to spend a few weekends cleaning graffiti around town.

Apparently there is video footage showing two people likely responsible, which for unknown reason the police have not released.

The School District 68 website posts the following regards yesterdays 'threats'.

Tuesday, February 3 - 8 a.m.
It is expected that all five of the Nanaimo-area secondary schools will be operational on Tuesday, February 3. In the event of the circumstances changing, the information will be posted on this website and announced on the local radio stations 102.3 or 106.9 FM.

Monday morning, there was a delay in the opening of all five Nanaimo-area secondary schools due to threatening graffiti that was written on the outside walls of the schools overnight. The threats – at Dover Bay, Wellington, Woodlands, NDSS and John Barsby secondary schools – implied that there would be bombs at the schools.

Thanks to a quick response from the Nanaimo RCMP, it was determined that each school was safe to open, and all schools were reopened by about 9:30 a.m. Everyone’s cooperation in dealing with this difficult situation is greatly appreciated.

These threats have been determined as posing a low risk to the safety of the students and staff of each of the schools; however, because the threats did make specific mention of February 3, the school district is working with the RCMP to take extra safety precautions for tomorrow at each of the secondary schools. It is expected that all schools will be operating as normal on Tuesday, February 3. If there is any change to this, there would be updates on this website or on local radio stations 102.3 or 106.9 FM in the morning.

Each of us has an important role to play in keeping our schools safe. Threats such as these are not acceptable and anyone participating in such incidents will be subject to school discipline and may also face criminal charges.
