The headlines scream the bad news and if you believe all you read you would believe the end is here!

So what is behind all this Chicken Little reporting anyway?

Well, Stats Canada just released a report showing that retail sales have indeed fallen when comparing Dec. 08 with Dec. 07 sales figures.

The decline nationally is posted at -5.4%, B.C. -5.6%, Ontario -6%, P.E.I. -4.5% and Nunavit -0.7%.

Another Way of Seeing Things

As a retailer of course you want to see ever increasing sales numbers and ever increasing profits. But really, is the world ending because you took in $94.60 this year instead of the $100.00 you took in last year?

I have to wonder why all the media these days seem bent on making things appear far more dark than they really are. This whole recession/depression can become a self-fulfilling prophecy if the press keeps hammering away and over blowing the negative!

The recession is driven by people not spending, and if you keep telling people the end is near, they indeed will not spend. And presto ........ your bad news headlines become reality.
