Nanaimo Car Crash Highway #1 and Cedar Road Claims Life

42 Year Old Nanaimo Resident
Dies In Early Morning Crash


A two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway #1 and Cedar Rd early this morning has claimed the life of a 42 year old Nanaimo resident.

Witnesses told officers on scene the deceased was driving north bound and collided with a station wagon turning legally left onto Cedar Rd.The 42 year old female driver and lone occupant of her vehicle died at the scene as the result of injuries sustained in the accident .
The two occupants of the station wagon were transported to hospital by BC Ambulance. The 24 year old driver of the station wagon was reported to be 37 weeks pregnant and is currently being monitored in the prenatal unit at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Her injuries however are not considered life threatening to her or her unborn child. Her 38 year old husband.a passenger in the vehicle, received only minor injuries and was released from hospital. The deployment of airbags and the use of seatbelts are believed to have prevented significant injury to the occupants of the vehicle.

The intersection was closed for some time while RCMP traffic analyst and other police investigators examined the scene. Investigators believe speed may have been a major contributing factor in the collision.

The family of the deceased have been notified but her identity is not being released at this time pending notification of her work colleges. Police are asking the public to call the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment at 250-754-2345 should they have any information concerning the accident or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
