Nanaimo Snowfall Warning

Old Man Winter Not Done With Nanaimo

The following snowfall warning was issued by Environment Canada this morning:

SNOWFALL WARNING: East Vancouver Island Issued at 4:35 AM PST TUESDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2009

SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 15 CM EXPECTED TODAY AND TONIGHT. THIS IS A WARNING THAT SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED OR OCCURRING IN THESE REGIONS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS..LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS.

A LOW PRESSURE CENTRE OVER THE EASTERN PACIFIC CONTINUES TO TRACK TOWARDS THE OREGON COAST TODAY BRINGING STRONG SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS AND PERIODS OF SNOW TO VANCOUVER ISLAND. SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS UP TO 70 KM/H WILL DEVELOP OVER WEST VANCOUVER ISLAND EARLY THIS MORNING. WINDS WILL GRADUALLY ABATE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AS THE LOW MOVES SOUTHEASTWARD AND WEAKENS. SNOW WILL ALSO SPREAD OVER VANCOUVER ISLAND TODAY WITH AMOUNTS RANGING FROM 5 TO 15 CM FOR THE ABOVE MENTIONED REGIONS. ELSEWHERE OVER THE LOWER MAINLAND SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF UP TO 4 CM ARE LIKELY.
