B.C. Ferries Discontinues Paper Tickets

PREPAID PAPER TICKETS FOR
MINOR ROUTES TO BE DISCONTINUED
VICTORIA – With the successful launch of the BC Ferries’ ExperienceTM Card last year, BC Ferries is pleased to announce it is phasing out its prepaid paper tickets for the minor routes effective June 1, 2009.

The BC Ferries ExperienceTM Card is a wallet-sized electronic payment card, similar to a gift card. The card offers additional features to registered customers, such as loss protection, auto re-load and now card pooling, which allows a secondary cardholder to share the primary cardholder’s balance. The BC Ferries ExperienceTM Card was introduced in the spring of 2008 as an innovative feature for customers and replaces the paper prepaid tickets.

As a result of the successful implementation, on June 1, 2009, BC Ferries will no longer utilize prepaid paper tickets as a method of payment. Customers with these tickets are able to transfer the value of the tickets on to a BC Ferries ExperienceTM Card until March 31, 2010. As of April 1, 2010 prepaid paper tickets will no longer have a monetary value.

Some exceptions apply. BC Ferries will continue to sell and redeem prepaid paper tickets on the routes without a computerized point-of-sale system. These routes include: Mill Bay – Brentwood Bay; Langdale – Gambier Island – Keats Island; Denman Island – Hornby Island; and Quadra Island – Cortes Island.

BC Ferries’ objective is to continue to expand the uses of the BC Ferries ExperienceTM Card and the benefits it provides customers.
