Conficker Computer Worm

Conficker Computer Worm
Real Threat or April Fool's Joke?

The much antiicapted chaos the Conficker Worm was supposed to inflict seems to be turning into another Y2K event or should we say non-event.

While the worm itself is very real, and has infected millions of computers globally by exploiting yet another hole in MS Windows it does not seem to have been the threat feared.

It seems there is a lot of speculation surrounding what this worm could do in terms of stealing personal data from your pc such as credit card and banking info, but it is all speculation at this point.

Anyone with a legitimate copy of Windows running on their computer who kept up to date with the security updates from the MS site should have little to worry about. Also, keeping your anti-virus software up to date is just another common sense way of keeping yourself safe.

While the threat can not be considered as over it may very well turn out to be just another Y2K which at least has the upside of making people aware of keeping their computer up to date and well protected with a good anti-virus program.

AVG supplies one of the best anti-virus programs around, which is free from personal use. You can download the free version of their software by using this Nanaimo Info LINK.
