Arrests Made After Gunfire in Nanaimo

Drug Dealers Charged

In Townsite Rd. Gunfight

Two males are in police custody in relation to the gunfire that occurred on Girvin Ave early Wednesday morning. Nanaimo RCMP and the South Island Emergency Response Team arrested a 21 and a 20 year old male Thursday, seizing a firearm, a vehicle, and a large amount of cash.

Following the arrest, a search warrant was executed at an apartment in the 1000 block of Bowen Rd where police located and seized ammunition, ecstacy, hash oil and small bundles of cash. Charges of robbery, discharge firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking are being recommended. Both males will be presented before a Justice of the Peace for a telephone bail hearing today. Police are suggesting the males remain in custody.

The gunfire on Girvin Ave occurred between individuals involved in the drug trade. The residence on Townsite Rd which received the gunfire was not the intended target. There is currently no evidence linking this incident to organized crime. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.

Editor's Comment: These are the kind of criminals who should be dealt with harshly and removed from society. They clearly have no regard for anyone but themselves.
