First Cannon Firing 2009

Mayor Ruttan Fires Cannon

Under blue sunny skies and balmy summer-like weather the Mayor fired the noon cannon last Friday signifying the start of another glorious summer in Nanaimo.

The Downtown Farmer's Market was open also and saw steady crowds enjoying the great weather while browsing among the many interesting offerings.

The Bastion was also open ( if you are a local and still have not been inside ... shame ) as was the lobby of the Pipers Lagoon Room in the PNC where the E.J. Hughes mural is on display.
A display of this artists work is also available at the Art Gallery on Commercial street.

We can only hope this is the start of a summer to remember in Nanaimo bathed in blue skies and kissed with warm southerly breezes!
