The above two photos were taken within fifteen minutes of each other on Sunday afternoon at about 3:00 pm.
The top photo shows an almost deserted Departure Bay Beach while the bottom photo shows the bustling Spirit Square area of Maffeo Sutton Park.
I drove around the entire parking lot three times and was unable to find a parking space, proving this is one of Nanaimo's most popular weekend spots.
It also means the City needs to get moving on providing the additional parking they say will be available adjacent the old Tally Ho parking lot. The lot will provide more parking for Park visitors who will have to walk under Pearson bridge to get to Spirit Square.
While the work on part of the square was done for the Children's festival, it would appear there is still considerable work to be finished to complete this worthwhile project.
