Beware Scammers On KIJIJI Classifieds

Scammers Out To Rip You Off

The above ads are examples of at least ten ads which appeared on the popular classified website KIJIJI yesterday.

The tip offs are obvious once you begin to look past what seems an incredibly good bargain. The photo's of the product are lifted from professional images rather than photo's taken by a legit seller.

The description is the complete text from the products manual, likely lifted right off the manufacturers website.

The final big red flag is the response you will get if you inquire about any of these 'bargains'. The item is not local and you have to prepay to take advantage of this great deal. The language is the other giveaway and the poor use of English, and the complete lack of professionalism in the way the letter is written.

For example the response I got when I enquired about the computer being advertised firstly referred to the computer by the proper name, while later in the email began referring to a bike! Not real clever these guys, but I guess they probably get a few suckers every now and then.

An outfit like KIJIJI should be able to employ a moderator to screen these ads and kill them soon after they are posted. By the time someone like myself notifies them and they check it out and remove the ads who knows how many innocent people have been drawn into their little scam.

If you can't see and touch the item and if the price seems too good to be true . . . . don't let your greed get the best of you, just run away!
