Spotted In Downtown NanaimoSunday afternoon this BC Ambulance was spotted on Commercial Street in front of the Royal Bank. Apparently even paramedics need cash from time to time.
I realize there has been a strike by the paramedics and ambulance drivers in this province for quite sometime, but I did not realize that using an ambulance as a rolling billboard was an acceptable practice.
It kinda makes you wonder what would be going through someones head if they found themselves upside down in the ditch needing medical aid, and the ambulance that shows up has a big ON STRIKE sign on the side and front of it. If I was in that situation I would prefer to have someone who is not ON STRIKE taking care of my urgent needs.
At the start of this conflict the union representing the ambulance drivers and attendants were claiming their jobs were as dangerous as firefighters and policemen and that is why they were seeking parody with them. I'm not sure who actually would think that to be true. It would be interesting to see what the policeman or fireman has to say about that claim.
I have seen several 'lawn signs' around town with the slogan 'save the paramedics', but I am not sure what they are to be saved from. If they were in the same straights as the bulk of foresty workers I think they would gain more sympathy.
As a long time BC Ambulance Paramedic both myself and my family members are continuously insulted by ignorant comments like "Paramedics don;t have dangerous jobs". Please take a moment and visit the attached you tube videos for a look into our jobs.

Is anyone seriously suggesting dealing with an old person with dementia is on a par with running into a burning building or dealing with domestic violence on a drunken Friday night??

Paramedics have incredibly dangerous jobs... and having dated a firefighter... the jobs are quite comparable... and on a day-to-day basis... paramedics are at much more risk.
ReplyDeleteHow insulting for someone to say they wouldn't want to be treated by a paramedic whose ambulance states that they are on strike... Just like the rest of us health care professionals... we have ethics... and you would be treated with the best care...
next time you're in a ditch and dying... and an ambulance comes... I'd like to see you turn them away... and potentially end your own life due to stubborness and ignorance...
