Fire Rating High Fire Bans In Effect

Kelowna Forest Fire

The above image by Andy Clark of Reuters shows just how serious wildfires can be, especially when they are near cities. Thousands have been evacuated in the Kelowna area as a result of raging wildfires.

This serves as an example of just what can happen if a small fire gets out of control and Island residents are urged to exercise extreme caution and obey all fire regulations in effect for your area. Some areas on the Island are now extreme with most areas posted as high.

In Nanaimo fire bans are still in effect and need to be heeded and that includes beach bonfires and all burning including smoking in public parks.

There have also been two more small fires on Mt. Benson, which ground crews were able to put out. The public should be ever vigilant and keep an eye open to any suspicious activities as whoever is responsible for these deliberately set fires, needs to be stopped.

And if you still smoke, do NOT throw your butt out the window, use your ashtray! Or better yet do your lungs and pocket book a favour and butt out all together!
