Nanaimo Shipyards Refits HMCS Saskatoon

Local Company Refits Patrol Vessel

The 55 metre Kingston class patrol vessel weighing in at 970 tonnes is the heaviest vessel ever refitted at Nanaimo Shipyards.

The company had to invest over $200,000 in winching equipment and wheels on a special cradle in order to accommodate a vessel of this size.

The $700,000+ contract will provide work for 50 full time, well paid jobs for a month employing shipbuilding tradesmen working two shifts, seven days a week to fulfill the contract with the Canadian forces.

If you are down that way stop and take a look, even under the tarps this vessel is quite the site.
