Mounties Get Their Man and Woman

Two criminals are behind bars and a break and enter attempt was foiled by quick thinking Nanaimo Mounties early Tuesday morning .

Two officers casually conversing outside their vehicles in a nearby parking lot, heard the sound of glass breaking followed by an audible alarm at the Husky Service Station, located at 76 Terminal Ave. As they were close by they sprinted towards the alarm and their efforts were rewarded by spotting two suspects quickly attempting to leave the area .

The two suspects split up but other responding members were able to nab one of them, a female, who was arrested for Break and Enter. The investigation lead officers to a nearby motel where a male was arrested inside a room for Break and Enter and taken into police custody.

Members then prepared a search warrant and several hours later executed it on his room located in the Travel Lodge motel. Found was a stack of Visa credit cards thought to be either stolen or forged and blank plastic cards often used in frauds and identity theft crimes.Other items were also seized that lead officers to believe the two had been involved with other fraud and theft offences in other jurisdictions.

“It certainly appears these two persons were not confining their criminal activity to just Nanaimo given the items seized, said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP. Our officers will be examining these documents closely for some time. They will be also following up with other police agencies to determine where the documents originated from and laying additional charges if appropriate” said O’Brien

Warren Wayne EFONEFF age 33, of Surrey and Nadia Vera-Lynne KETLER age 28, also of Surrey, appeared before a Nanaimo Provincial court judge Tuesday morning both charged with Break and Enter and Possession of Stolen Property. EFONEFF was also found in possession of a small amount of crystal amphetamine. He faces additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Breach of Probation. The two were remanded into custody and will be making their next court appearance in Nanaimo on August 19th.
