Vendors To Be Removed From Maffeo Sutton Park

Concession Stand To Replace Vendors

The local daily is reporting that as of Dec. 31 the vendors who have been in Maffeo Sutton Park will be replaced by a concession stand.

A manager with Parks and Rec says the new facility will mirror the concession at McGirr Sports Complex and should provide for a healthy menu offering. Vendors can submit proposals to run the concession.

Some feel the vendors are all a part of the 'flavour' of Maffeo Sutton Park and removing them will take away from the experience of going to the park and seeing familiar faces.

Editor's Comment: Why couldn't the city simply allow the vendors to compete with the concession, let the general public decide if they want a hot dog and pop, or sprouts and tofu? It is not yet clear how this concession is to be funded. Presently the vendors pay the city a fee to sell their wares. Presumably the new concession will be let to the highest bidder and no tax dollars will be used in another business venture run by the city.
