If You Think The Recycling Exchange Is An Easy Score ... Think Again!Over the past three weeks Nanaimo RCMP have been busy arresting individuals attempting to break into a recycling depot in Nanaimo.
Since August 27, five individuals have been arrested inside the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange located on Kenworth Rd .These persons have been charged with offences ranging from Break and Enter to Theft under $5000. On all occasions, police were alerted after alarms were activated. They responded in force and were able to find people inside the locked and fenced compound.
On the first incident reported August 27 at 1:30 am ,Police Dog Services were instrumental in locating two individuals hiding inside the compound. Facing Police Dog Razor ,his handler Cpl Muir and members of the Property Crime Unit, two males correctly decided to walk out and were promptly arrested. Neil LEWIS, age 24 and Cody DAVIS, age 27 were both arrested for Break and Enter, held in custody and later remanded into custody. They are scheduled to make their next court appearance on Sept 8th
On Sept 3rd at 9:30 pm police responded to another alarm and their efforts were again rewarded with the arrest of a male inside the compound. Neil FORBES, age 30 was arrested for Break and Enter and like the previous two males arrested, remanded into custody and will be making an appearance in court in late Sept.
The latest incident saw the arrest of two females.On Sept 4th the two were located inside the compound at 8:45 pm and arrested for Break and Enter. The two, ages 42 and 43 were not held in custody and released on Promise to Appears charged with Break and Enter.
“These individuals cut through fencing and scaled existing fences to gain entry to this business for scrap metal, computer parts and house hold appliances. The price of metal and by products of these items used in the drug trade are thought to be the motive behind their actions .Hopefully with these arrests others may take heed and think twice before following in their foot steps” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.
