Nanaimo's 12th Annual Cans Festival Helps Loaves & Fishes


CANS FESTIVAL

This photo shows some of the entries in a Canstruction event held in New York City. I am sure local entrants will put these examples to shame!

FILMS, FOOD, CANS take over downtown Nanaimo! The CANS Festival is one of the top annual fundraising efforts for the food bank. Please note - this event is an important fundraiser for Loaves and Fishes Food Bank. All events are admissible by cash donation or nonperishable food items.

The canstruction® competition begins on Friday September 11 with a day of building.
Structures will be available for viewing on Friday afternoon and on Saturday from
10:00am until 3:00pm. Awards will be presented for Jurors Favorite, Best Meal, Best
Use of Labels, Structural Ingenuity and Honourable Mention. Voting for the People’s
Choice award will take place during the day on Saturday and will be presented at the
awards ceremony at 3:00pm on September 12.

FESTIVAL PROGRAM:

September 1 - 11
Drop of food donations at any of the following locations in the Old City
Quarter:
• The Teak Tree (437 Fitzwilliam)
• Global Village Fair Trade Store (427E Fitzwilliam Beside Bocca)
• Millizzas' Cave (3-321 Wesley)
• Artzi Stuff (309B Wesley Street)
• Oceanview Executive Centre (203-335 Wesley Street)

FRIDAY September 11
12:00pm-6:00pm - Come and watch local engineers build amazing structures out of canned foods
7:00pm - MOVIE TIME! Bring your lawn chair and a blanket and come down to the plaza for a movie under the stars.
7:00pm - SHREK
8:45pm - IRONMAN
Please bring non-perishable food items for the food bank. Popcorn and refreshments will be available for sale.

SATURDAY September 12
10:00am-12:00pm - Short films on the big screen in Diana Krall Plaza
12:00pm-3:00pm - Nanaimo Gymnastics School, VIBE Dance, Harbour Dancentre and others perform for your entertainment.
10:00am-3:00pm - Public viewing and judging of the canstructions. Vote in the people choice category for $1
3:00pm - canstruction® Awards!
