Fight HST Movement Spreads Across Province

Former Premier, Bill Vander Zalm
Says Support is Faaaaantastic!

Rallies Planned In 13 Cities

Delta – Former BC Premier, Bill Vander Zalm, is taking his protest of the BC Liberal government’s planned HST province wide. In the lead up to the main rally in Vancouver at noon on September 19, satellite rallies are now popping up all across the province.

“The response has surpassed anything I could have imagined,” said Vander Zalm. “People from Prince George, 100 Mile House, Kelowna, Victoria, Kamloops, Revelstoke, Osoyoos, and all around the province are coming forward to fight this HST with us. It’s Faaaantastic,” said the former premier in his trademark fashion.

“We are also hearing from more and more business and community groups who are very concerned about the tax, and want to join in our efforts to stop it,” said Vander Zalm. “We have an excellent list of speakers for Vancouver, and all the rallies, including the Leader of the Opposition, Carole James. This truly covers all walks of life and all backgrounds.”

Guest speakers confirmed for the Vancouver rally include former Premier Bill Vander Zalm; Leader of the Official Opposition, Carole James; Independent MLA from Delta South, Vicky Huntington; BC Conservative Deputy Leader, Chris Delaney; BC Refederation Deputy Leader, Jordan Braun; Creator of No BC HST Facebook and 24 Hours Columnist, Bill Tieleman; Community Business and Professional Association president, Barry Morely; and Council of Senior Citizens of BC president, Sylvia MacLeay.

Vander Zalm explained that several other groups have been approached and have expressed interest to speak, pending official approval by their memberships.

“We are hoping to name a few more speakers before the 19th, once they can confirm their attendance with their boards and memberships. So many people oppose this now that it crosses all demographics - working people, business people, seniors, you name it,” said Vander Zalm. Rallies are being organized in 13 cities for September 19th, to coincide with the lead Vander Zalm Fight HST rally in Vancouver. That rally will take place next to the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre at Canada Place at 12:00 noon.
