Indecent Act In Nanaimo Park
Prompts Public Warning

Out door enthusiasts are being warned once again to use caution and incorporate safety into their workouts after two indecent acts on Sunday Sept 13th.

In the first incident a 51 year old female utilizing Participark located at the Beban Park Recreation complex, was confronted by a male naked from the waist down laughing and taunting her. Not having a cell phone with her, she ran to a local gas station and reported the incident. The incident however was not reported and the female ended up calling it into police the next day.

The male in question was described as being between 20-30 with medium length brown hair. He was wearing a blue t-shirt and was holding a pair of silver shorts in his hand.

The second incident occurred at approximately 1:30 pm the same day, in the 1600 block of Meredith Rd. In this case, a female returning to her residence saw a male standing near her home grabbing at his crotch and making crude gestures towards her. She ran inside to report it and last saw him walking west bound on Meredith Rd. He was described as being in his 50's with grey hair.

Females are cautioned to use some basic safety tips when out for walks or running .The buddy system works well and a cell phone or whistle should be carried with you at all times. If confronted, remove your self from the situation as quick as possible and make enough noise to attract the attention of other users or people passing by.

“Our City parks and other recreational venues are safe and fun places to visit. Unfortunately, incidents like these do sometimes occur .They are however relatively few and far between given the fact that thousands of people use are parks yearly. Incorporate these simple but effective safety tips when working out and don’t let one bad experience ruin a life time of enjoyment” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media relations officer for the Nanaimo RCMP.
