E & N Train Station Restoration Progressing

The restoration of the historic E&N Rail Station in Nanaimo is progressing with the roof closed in to keep out our famous Wet Coast winter elements.

According to their website:

The Young Professionals are partnering with the Island Corridor Foundation and the Downtown Nanaimo Partnership is a grass-roots fundraising campaign to raise the 400k required to set the train station restoration in motion. The first phase of the project is estimated at 1.3 million and will concentrate on the buildings foundation, structural integrity and exterior. $909,000 of that is already in the bank, $869,000 from VIA and $40,000 from the Downtown Nanaimo Partnership. The second phase will focus on the building interior and leasehold upgrades. The money for the second phase will be raised through a commercial mortgage.
