Bastion Showing It's Age

Apparently this famous Nanaimo landmark is in need of structural repairs before it will be open to the public again. The city has earmarked $25,000 to engineer what will need to be done to return it to a sound condition.

Total repairs are estimated to be in the $150,000 to the $175,000 range, which means don't be surprised if it costs $200,000.

Presently they have shored up the structure with temporary structural supports. Considering its age it is little wonder that some rot has found it's way in. It is not said whether the rot is actually in original timbers or in timbers which have been added during any of the three times the Bastion has been moved.
