Nanaimo Lockdown

Expect Police Roadblocks

This Holiday Season

The festive season is upon us and the Nanaimo RCMP have already held their first get together of the season. On 2009-11-27, 25 traffic officers from around Vancouver Island joined Nanaimo officers and conducted a " lockdown" in the city.

This lockdown consisted of numerous impaired driving roadblocks throughout the city during the course of the evening in an effort of enforcement and education to local motorists. 13 persons are facing various serious charges including 8 charges of impaired driving, 3 charges of driving while prohibited, 1 charge of drug possession, and 1 charge of theft of auto. 21 drivers received 24 hour driving prohibitions for alcohol comsumption while 76 tickets were also issued for Motor Vehicle Act offences. A total of 38 vehicles were towed off city streets.

Nanaimo RCMP are committed to ensuring city streets are safe during this holiday season. Please consider your options before you attend a get together this year. Have a designated driver get you to your party. Operation Red Nose is also running a service and will get you and your vehicle home safely. City taxis are also a smart choice to make.

  • Operation Red Nose 250-755-6969
  • AC TAXI 250- 753-1231
  • SWIFTSURE TAXI - 250- 753-8911

HAVE A WONDERFUL AND SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON
