Two males with ties to the notorious Red Scorpions are in custody facing drug charges after the seizure of almost a pound of crystal methamphetamine yesterday at a local motel.

Drug squad members acting on information obtained, stopped a vehicle yesterday in south Nanaimo afternoon carrying two brothers ages 21 and 24.The two were well known to the officers as being involved in the local drug trade. Their stop and subsequent investigation lead to the discovery and seizure of $1265 dollars in Canadian currency. Members arrested the two males then acting on further information, the officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for a room at a motel in the north end of Nanaimo. Approximately a pound of crystal methamphetamine with a street value in the range of $35,000-40,000 dollars was seized in the room, along with numerous cell phones and an Apple laptop stolen from a Nanaimo residence in late 2008.

The two brothers were kept in custody overnight and will appear before a Provincial court judge today on charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.

In addition to these new charges, the 21 year old male also faces a additional charge of Breach of Probation as he was not to possess any cell phones.His 24 year old brother also faces charges as he was the subject of two outstanding warrants stemming from Victoria for other drug related matters .
