Uplands Elementary School Vandalized

Vandals Cost Taxpayers Thousand of Dollar$
Up To $2,000 Reward

For the second time in five days vandals have struck a local elementary school.

Early this morning school staff arrived at Uplands Elementary located on Stronach Drive to find “sexually explicit” tagging on several exterior walls. The images were so graphic school staff decided to cover them up with paper to prevent small children from seeing them. Later in the morning maintenance crews arrived and painted over the images. Just five days prior on March 18, school staff again came to work to find that 25 of their windows had been smashed out. The cost to replace them is estimated to be in the range of $1800 dollars.

“The persons responsible for this behavior undoubtedly live nearby and are entering the schools grounds after hours. We need the residents of the area to be vigilant and report suspicious activity and persons to us. This has got to stop. Whether you tag a wall or break windows, it is vandalism and it’s costing the taxpayers of Nanaimo $1000's of dollars every year” said Constable Gary O’Brien media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.
