Gulf Oil Spill Cleanup Solution?

Could Oil Be Sucked Up From The Gulf?

Yesterday on the CBC the former head of Shell oil said he had been suggesting this solution to BP for three weeks now.

Apparently back in the 90's there was a major spill off the coast of Saudi Arabia, which went unpublished. In that case they brought in six super tankers which literally sucked up the oil from the water and prevented oil from reaching that countries shores.

Of course one of the problems is diverting these super tankers which are already busy transporting more oil for the struggling oil companies.

Is the solution to this huge disaster being ignored because of the almighty dollar?

  1. Doesn't the federal government have a fleet of "buyback" drag boats(fishing vessels) that could be adapted to drag the oil out of the water?
