Murder Charge Laid In Nanaimo Shooting

With Murder of John Charles Borden

One charge of first degree murder has been laid in the fatal shooting that took place in central Nanaimo late Tuesday afternoon.

Simon Phillip DOCKERILL ,age 31, a resident of Nanoose ,ten kilometers north of Nanaimo,has been formally charged with first degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a 47 year old Nanaimo resident. A bail hearing was held at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital this afternoon and with his lawyer present, DOCKERILL was remanded into custody. The second male involved,age 30, was released unconditionally from police custody and is not expected to face any charges. DOCKERILL is expected to remain in hospital for several weeks as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting.

The man shot and killed has now been identified as 47 year old John Charles Borden also known as Andy Frank.
