Wilgress Road Scene of Afternoon Gun Battle
It is reported that between 3:45 - 4:00 pm on the afternoon of May 25 a full scale gunfight broke out on Wilgress Road which is a busy industrial part of town.
Witnesses report hearing automatic weapon fire, at least a dozen shots being fired leaving one person dead and at least one other injured with a wound to the leg.
Local business people and their customers huddled behind locked doors and waited for the quick police response. The police quickly closed off the area and contained the scene. No officers were involved in the gun play.
Comment: I guess Nanaimo is getting all grown up. I kinda think this was not just a dispute over a parking space!
