Nanaimo RCMP are asking the public’s assistance in identifying two males seen in the vicinity of a fire that caused over $50,000 dollars in damage.

On May 26 at 1:30 AM, Nanaimo Fire and Rescue attended to a report of a suspicious fire at McGirr Elementary, located at the intersection of Dover and McGirr Rd. The fire broke out in one of the classrooms and the resulting smoke and water damage caused the school to be closed for classes the next day while crews remodeled the effected class.

Investigators have obtained surveillance footage of two males seen at the rear of Dover High School at the time of the incident and are interested in identifying them. Dover High School is located beside McGirr and to the west of the school. The males shown in the attached photos were first seen at 1:15 AM and then again at 2:43 AM. They are described as follows:

Male # 1 approximately 16-18 years , dressed in black, shoulder length brown hair and carrying a black guitar case

Male # 2 approximately 16 -18 years, wearing light colored pants and a plaid jacket.

“We need to stress that these two persons are not considered suspects in any way and are only persons of interest. They may however have seen or heard something in relation to the fire that can assist our investigators in solving this crime” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.

If you know these people please contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.You can also go online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com
