BBQ Fundraiser Helps Local Officer

Officer and Family Going To Disneyland

A BBQ and fifty-fifty raffle held today at the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment raised over $2500 dollars for a local officer battling a life threatening disease.

Today other officers and employees of the local Detachment enjoyed a BBQ and sweltering heat to show a friend and colleague they care. After it was all counted, $2648 was raised. The funds will go towards sending the officer and his family, consisting of his wife and daughters to Disneyland for a much deserved vacation.

Assisting with the fund raising was Constable Norm Smith. Cst Smith decided on his own initiative to “raise the bar” and dawned a larger than life pig outfit for the BBQ. Standing next to him and purchasing a ticket for the draw is Media Relations Officer Constable Gary O’Brien.
