RCMP Seek Witnesses

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating an accident from early Saturday evening that left a motorcycle driver in hospital with serious injuries.

The accident took place on July 10 at 5:50 PM, at the intersection of Rock City and Departure Bay Rd. A 74 year old male from Parksville ,driving a 1994 Dodge Colt, was attempting a left turn onto Departure Bay Rd when the motorcyle,a 1983 Harley Davidson, going south on Departure Bay collided with his car stricking the front left corner. The collision caused the 49 year old driver of the bike to be ejected and thrown a considerable distance.

BC Ambulance attended and transported the severely injured male to hospital. The male driver and his 64 year old male passenger were not injured in anyway and their vehicle only sustained minor damage. The motorcycle driver is presently in the Intensive Care Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and is classified as stable with multiple broken bones. He is expected to remain in hospital for some time.

“ Investigators spoke to several witnesses and believe that the speed of the motorcycle may have been a contributing factor to the accident. At this time however there has been no decision on charges ” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.
Any one who witnessed this accident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
