Fatal Crash Kills 18 Year Old Male

Speed Believed To Be A Factor
A single vehicle car crash early Monday morning has claimed the life of an 18 year old male.

At approximately 4:30 AM Nanaimo RCMP attended the intersection of the Nanaimo Parkway and Jingle Pot Rd for a single vehicle collision, involving a 2004 Ford Freestar van. A young male was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle. Officers believe he was driving north bound when his vehicle struck a cement barrier , continued across two lanes striking the east meridian then coming to a rest in the grassy area dividing the north and south lanes
.
The north bound lane was closed for several hours while officers with ICARS( Impact Collision Analyst Re-constructionist Services) and Nanaimo RCMP Traffic Services examined the scene. While the investigation was ongoing ,vehicle traffic was directed north along Jingle Pot Rd. The highway has  just recently opened.

‘From preliminary examination, it is believed speed and non use of a seat belt were contributing factors. There were no indicators alcohol played a factor in the crash. Members have contacted family members but will not be releasing the name of the deceased until there has been a positive identification made” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP

Victim Identified

The young male who died in an early morning single vehicle car crash yesterday morning has been identified.

Aaron Kenneth MCDONOUGH of Cedar, died after he lost control of his vehicle while driving north bound along the Nanaimo Parkway. The newer model van he was driving struck several meridians, flipped, then came to a rest in the grassy portion separating the north and south bound lanes. MCDONOUGH was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

MCDONOUGH was a recent graduate of Cedar Secondary and has family and many relatives in the Nanaimo area.
