Jason Ehret Charged After Search

 Search Warrant Nets Drugs, ID Theft Items, Stolen Computer Equipment
Large Quantity of GHB (Date Rape Drug)

The Nanaimo Property Crime Unit carried out a search warrant Tuesday night resulting in the arrest of seven persons and the seizure of a large quantity of drugs, stolen computer equipment and items used in identity theft crimes.

The search, carried out on a residential property also involved members from the Nanaimo Police Dog Services and General Duty members. No issues arose with the entry and all seven adults, three females and four males, were taken into custody and transported to the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment.

A search of the home located approximately 4 liters of GHB , also known as the date rape drug .Other drugs found were two ounces of methamphetamine ,drug paraphernalia and dozens of credit cards, credit card receipts and several hundred dollars in Canadian currency. Also found were several stolen laptops, hard drives, USB cards and blank VISA cards.

Jason EHRET, age 36, was remanded into custody and has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and was remanded into custody. Three females found in the residence ,one age 23 and the other two, age 29, are currently under investigation for offences relating to possession of stolen computer equipment and possession of stolen credit cards. These three females were later released from custody and three other males  males taken into custody earlier were released unconditionally.

“ This investigation is still active and more charges could be laid at a later date. We also believe the persons taken into custody are related to the recent rash of break ins to financial institutions in the north end. The quantity of suspected GHB found is alarming and samples have been forwarded to the RCMP Forensics lab for analysis” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.
