Camera Equipment Found In Nanaimo

Canon EOS 50D & EF 500mm lens

Did You Lose Your Camera ?

Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in returning some extremely expensive photographic equipment to its rightful owner.

On Monday July 19th an employee of the Caledonia Medical Clinic called police to report finding a duffel bag in the bushes behind their clinic. The Caledonia clinic is located at the corner of Wallace and Campbell St. When officers attended and examined the contents , they quickly realized they were dealing with more than just a lost bag. Inside was professional camera equipment valued at approximately $10,000 dollars.

Some of the items found were a Canon EF 500mm super telephoto lens valued at $7000. The lens was attached to a Canon EOS 50 D camera, valued at $800 dollars. There were several other high end items in the bag including a tripod and tripod head, each item was in pristine shape and of professional standards.

“To date there have been no inquiries with our office on this equipment .The serial numbers have been recorded on our computer systems so the owner should be able to identify them if we are contacted” said Constable Gary O’Brien ,media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP. We believe the duffel bag and contents were stolen and dumped at this site but why it was not reported to us is a mystery.”said O’Brien.

There was only one picture in the camera and it was of a blue heron standing in a grassy marsh. There was nothing identifiable about the picture or background to assist in the investigation.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2010-19610.
