Westwood Lake Drowning Investigation

Woman Reported Lifeguard's
Inattention To City

It is being reported in today's Times Colonist that a Port Coquitlam woman who runs a daycare had complained to the City about what she perceived as lack of attention on the part of lifeguards at Westwood Lake.

Apparently the woman was visiting her daughter and grandchildren and they were visiting Westwood Lake. She was troubled enough by what she describes as the lifeguards "chatting and flirting with beachgoers and in general not paying enough attention" to call the city office and lodge her complaint.

Karen Wasylyk is quoted as saying " somebody's going to drown there and it's not only going to be a tragedy, it will be preventable".

The city has promised an internal investigation into the matter in conjunction with the RCMP.
