Deane Finlayson Honored

Joan Finlayson Receives Street Sign Honoring Her Late Husband
 Deane Finlayson Way Dedicated

At last night's council meeting Mrs. Joan Finlayson received a street sign marking the naming of the road to Neck Point Park in honor of her late husband Mr. Deane Finlayson.

Mr. Finlayson was a well known Nanaimo developer who among other projects developed what is known as Woodgrove Mall.

Mrs. Finlayson read the following poem which she authored in 1958 after an outing she and Deane had at Neck Point Park. At that time there were no roads, schools or other development, just pristine bush and seashore.

The Picnic

The loaf of bread I'll bring from home
The book of verse I'll borrow
The jug of wine all neatly corked
Awaits our jaunt tomorrow
But thou must tell me where we'll sing
For this I've not provided
Will it be our lovely point
Before it's subdivided
Joan Finalyson
