Parkway Crash Victims Identified

The 10:46am crash involving a car driven by a 91 year old motorist and a motorcycle on Hwy 19 under the East Wellington overpass claimed the life of Fred Cormons who was the elderly driver of the 1977 Brown Chevy Nova. Cormons was a Nanaimo resident. The motorcyclist who struck Cormons, is identified as Gus Thorne, a 29 year old Nanaimo resident who had been operating a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Thorne’s condition remains critical in the Intensive Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital.

Just three hours after this crash,at 2pm, another crash claimed the life of a lone motorcyclist on 5th Street near the Hwy 19 intersection. This incident claimed the life of 57 year old William Casey, also a Nanaimo resident. Casey had been operating a 1994 Kawasaki motorcycle.
