Police Ask Public To ID Heartless Suspect

Thief Knocks 99 Year Old To Ground Fleeing Arrest

The Nanaimo RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male suspect who pushed a 99 year old man to the ground and injured him when trying to evade arrest for shoplifting.

On August 11, 2010 at approximately 6:30 pm the suspect attempted to steal DVD’s from the Nanaimo Walmart. The Loss Prevention Officer made an attempt to arrest the suspect, who took off running, in the process pushing a 99 year old man to the ground. The 99 year old man broke his hip when he fell. He was taken by ambulance to NRGH where he is awaiting surgery.

The recklessness of the suspect has now changed an elderly man’s quality of life. This is not just about a broken hip it is about an elderly male undergoing surgery from which there is a chance he may never fully recover. Anytime a person of this age undergoes surgery there is a significant chance of complications. A man who was in relatively good health enjoying his retirement years is now in hospital awaiting surgery.

Anyone who has information on the identity of this suspect is urged to call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
