The local daily reports a black bear sighting in Buttertubs Marsh on Tuesday evening around 8:00 pm.
This is the time of year for bears to come down from higher ground in search of spawning salmon to fatten up for winter.
Area residents are reminded to make sure their garbage is bear proof and that fruit trees are kept picked and windfalls kept cleaned up. Both items mean 'free food' for the local bruins.
Should you encounter a bear in the wild, or your own backyard there are a few things you need to remember.
You should talk in a loud voice and back away slowly being sure not to turn or run. In most cases bears prefer to leave when they realize a person is in the area. There are of course exceptions to that rule.
